We write readable texts in the language of your target audience. We translate scientific texts for medical specialists, clearly readable texts for patients and manuals for nursing staff, for example.
We strive for the highest quality: your project is always entrusted to a native speaker and each translation is carefully proofread by a second translator. We see ourselves as an external member of your team and are happy to advise you on all matters relating to language. We keep our knowledge up to date with relevant courses and training.

This is not always necessary for medical translations. If you text is to be submitted to a court, lawyer, or insurance company, certification may be required. If you are unsure, we will be happy to advise you.
Floor Perquin (1975) is a certified translator of Chinese to Dutch and English to Dutch. She specialises in texts about autism (mental health) and has also translated in the fields of (generic) medicines, (intraocular) eye lenses and forensic research into shaken baby syndrome. She has also translated texts on regulations and the import of Chinese devices into the EU. Floor organises various activities within the NGTV, including some for the Chinese group.
Astrid de Bruin (1979) graduated from the Interpreting and Translation Programme (now the Translation Academy) in Maastricht. She is a passionate and enthusiastic translator in the language combinations English-French-Spanish & Dutch and specialises in the medical field. Thanks to her living and working experience in five EU countries, she has a broad cultural and medical knowledge. She regularly supplements that knowledge by attending webinars, courses, etc. She mainly translates in the fields of gynaecology, paediatrics, urology and oncology.
Maaike de Wijs (1986) graduated in Sinology from Leiden University in 2010. She has both professional and personal experience with traditional Chinese medicine and regularly translates medical reports from traditional and simplified Chinese into English and Dutch.
Marjolein van Oosterom-Peters (1969) started as a freelance English-Dutch translator in 2007 with a background in chemistry (degree and PhD in organic chemistry), initially translating patents in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields. She later expanded her field of work to include medical translations. The documents she translates include package inserts, ICFs (informed consent forms), questionnaires and brochures for patients, protocols, SPCs (summary of product characteristics), etc.
Ammerins Moss-de Boer (1974) is a certified interpreter/translator for English and has specialised in legal and medical texts over the years. She mainly translates medical files for individuals who wish to consult a doctor abroad for a second opinion, but also annual reports for patient associations and organisations in the medical and paramedical field. Her specialisations are gynaecology and oncology. She is a board member of the NGTV and It Skriuwersbûn (an organisation for Frisian writers).
Jeanette Willighagen (1975) is a medical translator from French, German, English, Italian and Russian into Dutch. She specialises in medical reports, pharmaceutical research and patient information. In addition to being a translator, she also works as a mesologist, a form of complementary medicine that uses Ayurveda, TCM, homeopathy and orthomolecular therapy, among other things. Translations of texts in these fields are therefore in good hands with her.
Suzanne Rietveld (1966) is a bilingual translator of English and Dutch. Thanks to her previous job as a medical secretary, she has extensive knowledge of medical terminology. She regularly works on research documents and has translated nursing courses (ENPC and TNCC). Suzanne is an expert in the field of NAH/CVA and would like to use this experience in her work as a translator.
Marie-Claire Mazelin (1957) obtained a paramedical diploma in France, has completed several courses and gained a variety of work experience since moving to the Netherlands. She has been a certified Dutch-French and English-French translator for over 18 years. She combines her experience as a medical-legal translator with continuous training and a passion for the French language. She enjoys translating complex files that require the accuracy of a human translator with expert knowledge.
Mònica Ruscalleda (1975) has always had a love and passion for languages, which is why she decided to study translation alongside her work as a care provider for people with disabilities. She graduated from the ITV University of Applied Sciences for Interpreters and Translators (Utrecht) in 2010 and combines her translation work with working in the social domain. This background has also led her to do medical translations (including medical files and psychological texts). She is also a certified translator of Catalan and Spanish and often translates for official bodies.
Sigrid Kullmann (1960) has been a translator for over 30 years, specialising in medicine and art & culture (English-Dutch & German). She translates patient information, scientific articles and medical files in various medical fields for organisations, publishers and private individuals. keeps her medical knowledge up to date through continuous training and networking with specialists in the field. She is also a coordinator of the Medical Section and the Medical Translation Network.
Jantine van Grootheest (1970) is a scientifically oriented translator who specialises in medical and pharmaceutical translations (Spanish/English-Dutch). Thanks to her background in veterinary medicine and experience in immunological research, she has extensive knowledge of various medical fields, life sciences research, medical devices and pharmaceutical legislation. She combines her analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and a passion for clear, accurate communication.
Véronique Duprey (1966) studied French literature at the Sorbonne in Paris, obtained a PhD in French literature in the Netherlands and has been a certified translator of French to Dutch and Dutch to French since 2001. She is academically oriented, has completed MBK/PSBK training and specialises in translation in paramedical fields, among others. Analytical and passionate about the human brain, she is also a writer and hypnotherapist in addition to her work as a translator.
Evelyne Loiterstein (1970) is a medical and legal translator with the language combination Hebrew and English (US) - Dutch and lives in Israel. She studied languages and translation at universities in Belgium, the Netherlands and Israel and worked for a long time as a researcher and translator at an Israeli-American research institute (think tank). As a translator, she specialises in clinical studies, medical files and medical reports such as discharge letters and psychiatric reports.
Heleen Bos (1954) studied Dutch, Linguistics, Spanish and Translation Studies, is also trained as a literary translator, has extensive experience in writing popular scientific texts and has been working as a Spanish and English - Dutch translator since 2011. She gained her medical knowledge through the minors she took and in her partner's general practice. She translates scientific articles, medical files and patient information in various medical fields.
Karin Vermeer-Schouwenaar (1969) has been a freelance certified translator of French, English and Dutch since 2005, specialising in legal and medical. She translates a wide range of texts and has a particular interest in sports and oncology. In addition to her work at the translation agency, she is a volunteer firefighter and recently started working as a personal oncology fitness trainer.
Liz van Gerrevink-Genee (1957) is a native English speaker who grew up in South Africa. She is a certified Dutch-English translator specialising in legal, technical and medical texts, primarily for private individuals and government institutions. This requires continuous networking and further training to maintain her registration in the register of sworn interpreters and translators. She has worked on manuscripts for PhD publications, medical research documents in criminal cases, case reports and autopsy reports.
The Medical Translation Network (MVN) was founded by experienced professional members of the Dutch Association of Interpreters and Translators (NGTV) and focuses specifically on the translation of medical texts. All translators in our network have their own experience in this field. The assignments can vary greatly, often involving patient files, scientific articles or manuals for medical devices. A broad field such as medicine and everything related to it naturally results in a wide variety of interesting assignments.
For example, we recently translated a surgical report for a private client who wanted to use it to seek a second opinion abroad. It concerned a long-term illness and an unsuccessful operation; every page was filled with suffering and pain. The client was very grateful after delivery and hopefully, our support will help him find a solution to his medical problem.
The opposite of such a personal translation came our way when the MVN was approached by an institute that keeps Dutch statistics on transfusion and transplant reactions. Every year, they publish an annual report in two languages, Dutch and English. We were asked to translate it into English and were able to make use of their archive of previous annual reports.
Finally, an example of clinical research and the instruments used. We recently translated questionnaires for a university medical centre about awareness and perception of bodily sensations (known as interoception). The researchers want to test Dutch translations of questionnaires developed by British researchers, the Interoceptive Accuracy Scale and the Interoceptive Awareness Scale. This will allow them to see whether people in the Netherlands have a similar relationship with their bodily sensations. After this test, they want to use the questionnaires in future research on emotions.
For all assignments, our clients have direct contact with the translator and all translations are checked by a colleague. A WhatsApp terminology group is available for assistance during the translation process. The MVN's horizontal organisational structure is supported by a steering group that organises meetings and streamlines general operations. Participants are expected to attend meetings regularly through Zoom, manage the mailbox in pairs for one week and be active on LinkedIn during that week.
